Whether or not there is a law is irrelevant.
What that landlord is really saying is these people aren't on the lease and I object. Instead of looking like a jerky landlord I am going to make up some bogus law to get these people out of my building.
They absolutely can loose the apartment if you are staying there and are not on the lease.
There may or may not be such a law, but it is rather irrelevant in your situation, since the landlord does not have to allow anyone other than the tenants of record to stay in any apartment unit.
You and your GF are rather 'squatters', and the landlord can require that you leave with NO reason other than that he does not want you there. What is the law for living in a 1 bedroom apartment in LA county?
Technically the landlord is correct but....... unless the lease or rental agreement states this it is not enforceable.
L.A. County has it's own Landlord Tenant regulations. You will find them on the Counties website.
Also check California Codes under Landlord Tenant heading.
Good Luck.
Read the lease agreement you signed. It will explain your rights. What is the law for living in a 1 bedroom apartment in LA county?
He is correct and it sounds like you were never authorized by the landlord to start off with.
The legal limit is 2 people per bedroom. A small child would be allowed in a 1 bedroom only up to a certain age. This is regulated by city occupancy laws and are about the same nation wide.
You need to find another place.
