What is the rule in law that says all court cases must have happen and the parties must be directly affected?

I remember learning about a clause (it could be in the Constitution) that in United States Law all court cases must have actually happened, and the parties (defendant and prosecutor) must be directly connected. Does anyone know where it can be found? Does it apply to criminal law or civil law or both? What is the rule in law that says all court cases must have happen and the parties must be directly affected?
The concept of "Standing" in civil cases. This has been developed by the Supreme Court (and lower courts) over the years, based on Article III, Sections 1 and 2 in the US Constitution. (Judicial Power, Cases and Controversies, and Jurisdiction). State concepts of Standing differ.

Standing: the injury to the Plaintiff must have happened or be imminent, must be caused by the Defendant, and must be able to be solved by the court.
